It should lie flush
I doubt it would crack the aluminum, the pin will smush first.

Got a little brush you can clean out the hole with?

heat the aluminum a bit with a heat gun?

a bit of petrolatum on the shaft?  Don’t start guys?

Ok, well, thanks for the tip... I cleaned them heated the hole, turned a can of air upside down and sprayed the tip of the pivot to chill it, and hammered it in.... Gave it one too many hits and the tip broke off. ☹️

Time to order another one.

Nooo.... not the brass pin thread again!!!

So, what I found was that a socket that fit over the top of the

pivot pin worked pretty well.  Don't be afraid to sand it down a bit-

it's NEVER going to see negative installation force.

Without reading prior posts on the brass pivot, I personally don't like the idea.  I would rather have the pivot wear than the clutch fork.  I have a new one on order from Blunt, which will be kept at room temp, well lubed, and inserted into a properly heated and cleaned hole in the transmission.

I have to admit I know nothing about the brass pivot pin vs. the plastic one.  Sounded like a good idea to me, but what do I know?  I've stuck with 4-speeds on all of my cars...
