They were originally semi-gloss — neither gloss nor matte. I’ve always used powdercoating, because of its durability, but I’d bet any good semi-gloss black spray paint will get you close.


By the by, VIN 2760056 is a seriously-early tii. Congrats! Now how do we get your car into the Registry? 😉👍

Whatever you do, replace the rubber washers when reassembling it.  I ended up buying them from BMW...

I had mine powder coated in a semi-flat black.  Semi-gloss, semi-flat... same

Cost me about $100 and I'm happy.
