Glove box lock

Just to provide some more graphics, here are two photos. 

 

The first is this "lock hole" viewed from below (glove compartment door ajar) of my 1968 1600-2.

This next photo is the same/similar lock hole of the dash backer panel of an E9 viewed from above.  Oddly, the E9 lock/push button is on the front of the dash pad.  As a result, I don't think this hole serves the same purpose on the coupe.
