Euro-spec cars retained the three-piece chrome-trimmed dashboard until April 1971, the introduction of the Modell 71 upgrade/facelift.

U.S. D.O.T. regulations, effective 1968, made padded dashboards mandatory. So, from our U.S. perspective, all (U.S.-spec) 2002’s, introduced in 1968, had the fully-padded dashboards. But U.S.-spec 1600-2’s also got the fully-padded dashboards, beginning November-ish 1967.
