Green Fog Light Button to Right of Ashtray

If you can find an E21 parts car (78-83 320i) they have several of those switches in assorted colors on their dashboards.  The trick these days is finding a 320 in a salvage yard!

The bezel is different on the E21 as I the fitting method (clip vs screw). However, you can swap them over with a spare hazard switch, if you have one, as I did.

+1

’02 era auxiliary light switches have the thin “chrome” decorative band surrounding the green push button, designed to match the ‘02 hazard light switch (as below, first photo).

Your swapping method is excellent, as it allows the much broader supply of BMW auxiliary light switches to be converted into “02 switches”! 😉

Auxiliary lights in the U.S. were strictly post-factory. The green buttons, which replaced the green factory dummy buttons, standard on U.S. ‘02’s from the Modell 71 (April 1971) onward, were actually pretty rare. Many ‘02 owners used a range of aftermarket switches for their auxiliary lights rather than purchase the factory switch. I, personally, suspect the green buttons might not have existed before the Modell 71. And when I purchased a new switch for my new ‘76 on August 18, 1976, it was the green-with-chrome-trim switch still in use on my ‘76 ($6.63 with PA sales tax, as shown in the second photo).

But square taillight cars made life easier with their dedicated front fog light switch adjacent to the instrument cluster. This freed us to use the green push button for driving lights or a rear fog lamp!

Regards,

Steve

You can also use the lighted pull switch from a 530i. It almost matches the stock headlight pull switch.

I believe Scott has a round taillight example…

I know… sad! 🥲

I use a green push button switch in place of the blank to start/stop datalogging and manual override the electric fan (with the Elite.).

A radiator shop is a good place to take a leak.

I have no idea what I'm doing but I know I'm really good at it.

I like the idea proposed for converting a E21 button for a roundie 2002 fog light.  Was there ever a green button used on the E21 or is the orange button the best choice?

I believe I’ve seen orange, yellow, green, and purple switches without the chrome accent. Admittedly, I have no idea where and when they were used. I’m guessing the E12 (Euro-spec version introduced 1972?) and E21 (Euro-spec version introduced spring 1975) might have used those all-black versions before the ‘02 era ended. Someone here will know more!
