In boating an Outboard refers to an engine bolted to the transom.  An Inboard is a boat with the engine mounted in the hull and the prop on a shaft extending thru the hull.  And then there is the Inboard Outboard stern drive with the prop on a drive mounted on the transom, then the jet boat .........  If you are Overboard, then you are SOL.

I think I would try drilling out the rivet that holds the spring connection and removing the spring connection. Add a  male spade terminal on top of the one that goes to the bulb facing the other dire

Compress the spring all the way and drill a second lower hole for the wire. Cut off excess center post length. ??
