Tom, your diagram is of the 2 barrel Solexes used in later 2002s; Marcel's 1502 has the same single barrel Solex as was used on US 1600s.  

 

What's pictured sure looks like the needle valve that controls gas flow into the float chamber, triggered by the float itself.  There should be a number stamped on one of the hex flats (1.5, 2.0 etc) that designates the size of the opening in millimeters.  

 

It screws into the underside of the carburetor's top, directly over where the float sits, usually with a copper washer between it and the carburetor body.
