Weber 32/36 question

I'm working on sorting out my carb, reading many threads and I'm getting close.  (recent car purchase, first time working with carbs)

While I was setting up my fast idle settings I noticed a port on the carb that I am unfamiliar with and after looking around google I have yet to find an explanation of what it is.

So...can anyone tell me what the area circled in yellow is and if it's supposed to be blocked off etc.

Not used for anything.

I put plugs on any unused holes just to keep the dirt out.

The bottom arrow in your photo is an internal fuel filter screen...not often cleaned, although it should be.
