Hi all ,Can any one tell me in what year or month B M W painted the sills  black on the early 1600-2 cars .my car is a r/hand drive in November 1967 sold new in New Zealand .i am getting the car ready to paint and would like to keep it original cheers Keven

I believe it was strictly a 1966 practice, so probably beginning March 1966. But I’ve not seen a 1600-2 manufactured during 1967 with black-painted rockers in lieu of the rocker moulding. My own was a June 1967 car and it had rocker panel mouldings, and no black paint.

 

Below is an October 1966 (“X/66”) brochure illustrating the early blacked-out rocker panels, installed in lieu of rocker mouldings.

 

Does your car retain evidence of rocker panel mouldings, i.e., holes for the moulding clips?

Brits and Kiwis don't have rocker panels, just sills.
