Lucky, I'm sorry to hear about your experience with Boyd's but glad to hear about your mad Macgyver skills! It's hard to believe so many things went awry in such a short period of time!

and, with regard to Dave Lumbra, my '72's M10 was rebuilt by him a few years before I bought it in Veneta (15 years ago) and it still runs like a champ!

best,

Mitch

I know, right!  And that was just the receipted Boyd work. I had some electrical problems too. So much wrenching on that trip.  I brought tools, patience, and a can-do attitude, so I had a blast getting it home.  One way or another, driving an untested 45 year old car 1200 miles is guaranteed to be an adventure. I loved doing it and have no regrets.

Hoping to be back on the road in the spring.

Have to chime in. Dave was a great person and the only 2002 resource in the Eugene, OR area. I spent way too much time and $$ visiting with him. It saddens me to see these type of people move on and so few replacements!

Welcome to the FAQ!

The skinny is that Mike (O'hara) became ill or passed away but his partner, Craig was running the biz and is/was a fantastic wrencher. Sadly, Mike's sister took over the shop (April 2022), kicked Craig out, and liquidated the entire shop including parts, tools...you name it! I've heard good things about Boyd Motor Werks and Pacific Motorsport - both in Portland.

best,
Mitch

Thanks Mitch (yeah, a little slow on my reply - life has been interfering and meddlesome of late).

FYI, I went by Pacific Motorsports shortly after getting my '02 (Sept '23) and was told that they had "a guy" who worked on all the 2002s, but that he recently left and they weren't in a position to be of much help.

I think that ‘02 specialist was Matt and he’s now a mobil mechanic. I can put you in touch with him if you like. But yeah I know all about life getting in the way!

I would nominate Racecraft in Woodinville, WA. They take care of all my race cars, plus they built my S14 2002 hot rod, and restored my TiSA. Can't go wrong with Jim and his crew!

Racecraft has crossed my radar before. Your S14 02 is gorgeous (also, just found this):

Hi all,

I'm also new here and new to the 2002, as I'm in the works of buying a 74 2002 right now. I'm in the PNW also and am wondering if there are any members here locally near Olympia/ Tacoma / Seattle area and if anyone knows anything about German Car Service in Lacey, WA ?

Since I've been asked to chime in.  Dave Lumbra and Kevin Boyd Have passed. Mike Ohara is in assisted living.  Peter Salzman, Rick Price and Ric Farrar are retired or retiring.  I don't know who or where Craig is working.  I have too many complaints about workmanship from other shops to recommend them.

Register to join the PNW area 02 club it's a active group and you'll find a lot of cars and people between Washington and Oregon plus several meets and drives.

If everybody in the room is thinking the same thing, then someone is not thinking.
