Pilot bearing, which one do I need?

I have a 1970 motor with a ball pilot bearing (see picture below), will my 1974, 4 speed transmission fit inside it? I was just searching some posts about it and read there are also needle bearings that are for a different diameter shaft. Just looking for some clarification if there is any, thank you!

The needle bearings showed up in about 1974, and didn't last all that long.

They used the surface of the pilot shaft as the inner race, and the tiny

seals didn't do a very good job.  And if the pilot surface of the transmission was

damaged even a little, then the bearings didn't hold up very long.

Many of the small pilots have been scrapped or bored out-

plus, the automatics still got the larger pilot hole in the shank,

so there are lots of bigger cranks out there.

In 1970, you'd have a larger pilot, unless the crank was replaced in the mid- 70's.

As for the trans itself the pilot shaft has the same diameter through out 02 production.
