'75 Turbo 4290015??

Recommended Posts

Saw this car running today at the Artcurial auction in France. Just at a quick glance, saw quite a few things that did not look correct. It is allegedly a '75 but has a '74 VIN. Dash cluster incorrect. Driver seat is incorrect. Cowling is black. Appears to be a very poor restoration and they talk about a replacement VIN plate. Could not find anything out about this car online.

The block serial number is from a different (non-Turbo) car.  Odd that it's listed as a 1974 with that early Turbo VIN.  No photo of the original data plate, but fender stamping looks good!

I've never seen a Turbo panel discolor that way.  The red usually just fades out, with the white background bleeding through.  That's why Oldenzaal paints them in their restorations.

I'm not seeing what you're seeing on the driver seat...both seats look like correct Rentrops.  Maybe the insert material is wrong.  Can't really see that detail well.  The photographer likes moodiness more than detail...

I'd expect to see more undercarriage photos for any 2002...but especially a six figure one.

The engine block began life in a 1971 Euro-spec tii. And, yes, 4290015 was almost certainly manufactured in early 1974. But the listing refers to an initial registration in 1975, and perhaps France bases their registration and title year on the initial registration date and not on the manufacturing date or model year.

Best regards,

Steve

Agree that's the wrong cluster, especially with the raised bezel on the dials... Weird as the >73 style raised facia cluster is easy to source & paint.
