2002 Rear panel red reflectors.

That makes sense. One is only a retroreflector - the other a combo light/reflector. It seemed odd BMW would use the lighted lens both places.

Just an FYI, you can still buy the complete new rear reflectors from BMW with the base, gasket and lens.  But, they now come with the same lenses as the illuminated side ones.  The original rear reflectors on my '73 have the lens without the small rectangle for the light.

 

The part numbers are 63 14 1 353 055 for the right rear.

63 14 1 353 056 for the left rear.

Same thing if you order new yellow lenses for the front.  You'll get the little rectangle on the lens.  Originals didn't have that. At least on my '73 they didn't...

You just know some bean-counter somewhere is happy they forced this combo marker light/retroreflector lens onto the plain retroreflector to save some pennies…

The originality police should take notice of this.  "1/2 a point off because your car has the wrong reflectors".  Me, do I care?  Hell No 😆

IMO, a fresh ‘wrong’ lens beats a tired correct/original lens any day, John.

 

I’m kinda amazed at seeing lots of great looking, well-cared for 02s with really dull faded lens… Amber that looks piss-yellow, and Red that looks pink.
 

Freshened up lighting makes a big difference in looks…and function.
