No vacuum advance on tii dizzy, centrifugal only.

Yes, only USA E12 cyl head 2002tii from 1974 had the vacuum pod.  I think I’ve posted this before, but here it is again… 😋


The 2002tii Dizzy Usage Sequence (Bosch #s)

 

USA 2002tii

121 head:

0 231 129 037 [8/71 - 1/72], a JFR 4,

then 0 231 151 008 [2/72 - 7/73], a JFD 4,

then Replacement 0 231 188 002, a JFD 4.

 

E12 head:

0 231 180 013 [8/73-12/74], a JFUD 4,

then Replacement 0 231 168 025, a JFUD 4. These are the vacuum retard dizzys.

 

World 2002tii

121 head:

0 231 129 037 [5/71 - 9/71], a JFR 4,

then 0 231 151 008 [10/71 - 6/73], a JFD 4,

then Replacement 0 231 188 002, a JFD 4.


E12 Head:

0 231 151 009 [7/73-7/75], a JFD 4,

then Replacement 0 231 188 002, a JFD 4.

 

As you can see, 0 231 188 002 is the last Replacement tii dizzy for BOTH 121 and E12 head types Worldwide, but not for USA.  Likely because it's a full-mechanical dizzy, and doesn't have the needed vacuum takeoff like on the 180 013, and it's 168 025 replacement. The 188 002 dizzy is also notably the last Replacement dizzy for all the ti 02 (1600/2002).  It makes sense why it was very common as time went by.

 

For completeness, here’s the 2002ti sequence as well:

0 231 129 026 [67],  0 231 129 033 [1/68-6/70], 0 231 151 003 [70 USA] and 0 231 129 037[7/70-4/71], all JFR4, were used on the ti, and the latter was also very briefly used on the first tiis produced in 5/71.  The 2002ti's dizzy replacement became the 0 231 151 008 used on the tii. These dizzys sometimes show up under both tii and ti listings, though they're predominantly ti.

Yep mine was. I swapped to a 123 and incorporated the vacuum into the tuning since the unit also has the port.

I did initially. Lots of recommendations in various threads on here. It has been a while but I do remember playing around with it a lot. Just so easy to try different settings.

Recently, doing my cooling system refresh I discovered the Kfish was off a few w teeth from the correct timing. Once I get it all back together I will follow the guide and set everything to default.

Hey Tom,

 

By replacement, do you mean it became the “superseded by ”in the parts book? 
 

I have an 002 on a regular 2002 (but with a carbed Tii engine, it’s complicated) and that seems common so I am wondering if 002 became the official replacement dizzy for all engines or if it was a “works well enough and is available” thing.

Yup. The official BMW post-production replacement dizzy.
 

The 188 002 wasn’t used during production. It is only the correct ‘functional’ replacement mech-only dizzy for the tii I’ve cited, and for the ti models. All the rest of the carbed model 02s have their own different dizzy sequences and post-production replacements. 
 

The  production dizzys typically bring changes with each superseding part number change - mostly small, some significant.  For example, sometimes the advance curves were slightly different, or in others it’s different points/caps, etc.
