Help for Turbo seat's

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

Hello everyone, I bought a turbo last year and these were the seats. I took some photos and they appear to be original Recaro/Rentrop seats. I don't know why it has this velour cover! In the front back seat's, we have a zip and a rigid plastic.

Any idea if they are the real ones?

Many thanks for your help

In the section History and Register at the forum I found this:

Jan 1974 BMW 2002 Turbo production begins—again, not for the US—at VIN 4290001; approximately 1671 were built through June 1975.

BMW 2002 Turbo

April 1974 Luxus trim offered on non-US models—included some items that were standard on US models, plus rear seat armrest, velour upholstery, real wood trim on interior door panels, and instrument cluster.

They look like the correct seats.  Sometime in the last 50 years someone decided to reupholster them in Velour.  I have never seen the sports seats with velour, and I have never seen a BMW velour in that color.  My guess is they had torn the original vinyl and decided they wanted velour.

The originals are Rentrop, not Recaro.  The metal parts look right, but the Recaro rubber part is confusing!  Original covers had two vertical zippers in the backs.  Obviously, these seats were recovered; originals were vinyl.

They look real from a shape, construction and hardware perspective.  I am sure the velour was originally black.  Fortunately they can be recovered again!

Thanks everyone.

For the moment I think I'll have to get some seats!

Now I'll have to find the right vinyl, leather and someone who knows how to do upholstery!

BMW still sells the two types of black vinyl upholstery you need, in sheet stock, believe it or not!  Or at least they did last I looked...
