Brake Line Routing

2002#3

Recommended Posts

To answer and resolve some of the brake line routing questions and issues I and other FAQers have had, I made the attached diagram to represent the general, usual, and common routing of the 13 hard and 6 flexible brake lines in most LHD 2002s.  Note:  (i) The routing and/or number of lines is somewhat different in some of our cars, e.g., 2002tii and earlier cars.  Search 2002FAQ for these differences.  (ii) The routing to the front calipers might be and can be a little different in individual cars; however, the routing should be functional as long as each caliper has a feed from the front of the MC and a feed from the rear of the MC.

Let me know if the diagram needs editing.

"Driver" and "Passenger" designations are meant for a LHD car, of course.  Our Aussie, Irish and Brit brethren and sisteren (and other former British colonies) see 'em just the opposite 😉.

On the rear brake line output from the M/C you might add in the residual pressure valve.

And on 76 US cars only, the differential pressure warning switch between the two circuits...
