First of all, I haven't been on the board in 100 years or so. (Hey Brad! Hey Bill!) I am back in the '02 fray again after spending time rebuilding of all things, a...gulp...Land Rover. Anyway this is my 1st note in a while. Though some guys might get a kick out of this e-mail I got from someone wanting to "buy" my Rover. You guys gotta help think of something good to say here! I would love to find this loser but I will settle for yanking his chain.

Here it is:

Hi ,

Thanks for your response we have gotten all information needed,I have just spoken to my friend in regards your payment and he has agreed to pay $4,000.

Am happy to tell you that my friend has instructed me to carry on with the transaction, he said that I should inform you that payment will get to you in a cashiers check of $7,000 which is a payment of a cancelled order of a car from a car dealer earlier made by him. The order was cancelled because, when the pickup agent went for the pick-up of the car, it was discovered that the car had been involved in an accident and this wasn't mentioned during the course of the transaction.

This check {$7,000} will be made out to you due to the refund of the cancelled order from the dealer will be on one check, so you are required to deduct cost of your Property $4,000 when payment gets to you and refund the balance of $3,000 to my friend's shipper/agent via western union money transfer or money gram transfer for him to be able to offset some custom work and shipping charges.

After payment has reached you and balance sent to the agent/shipper,our agent will come for the pick up and drive to a prepaid shipper, while title papers and other necessary documents will be sent by you via courier to my friend.

All fees, westerunion, courier, etc will be deducted from the balance.

Please confirm this and provide name, address and phone number for check payment to be delivered to you via courier services.

Josh

You gotta love it! Is there some place you can notify about frauds like this?

Anyway, good to be back!

See how long you can drag the asshole out. Make him think you think it's a good deal, get him to send you the bogus cashiers check via certified mail. If nothing else, he'll be out a few bucks for the mail and the cash check.

Then report his ass to the FBI, I think they do that.

I read some guys blog that drug one of these ass's along for the better part of 3 weeks before he finially told him to F-off. The guy on the other end actually starting sending him nasty emails for being late with the payment.

I'll see if I can dig it up.

Someone on the Saab board, (I don't have one, just happened across this post), likes to have a little fun with the Nigerian scammers. Check this out, it will explain the scam and provide some great entertainment.

I found it very, very funny..

tell them to send the check. When it clears, you'll put the $3,000.00 in small denomination unmarked bills in a duffle bag in the trunk. their agent can recover the money when they pick up the car.
