SYNTHETIC STRIP SILBER 03/1966 03/1971 51111816063

Hello, I noticed that my 68 was missing the bumper guard edge cover, thingies. (Circled Below #2) RealOem, shows them as PN 51111816063, and the same number for the rear bumper. I’d like to order a new set of 8 for both ends, but I want to make sure they fit the US style bumper guard (looks like they should) before plopping down the big non-refundable coin for about 20 cents worth of Bavarian plastic. Anyone order and install these with success?

Thanks

Ben

I believe you can only order the black ones these days...and they come in a roll or by the meter, etc...you must cut to proper length. Easy to do. Originally the Euro style had silver strips, but those are NLA to my knowledge, and if they are available I bet they are pricey! I'd just go with the black.

from BMW, try a VW (old) Beetle parts supplier...they use the same stuff and may have it in the dull sliver that BMW used to use. You might also check with Max to see if he has any silver...

A trick if you have the silver stuff and it's all turned tan/brown from sun exposure: remove each piece from its bumper guard and swap 'em side to side. That exposes the nice silver side that's been hiding under the bumper guard all these years...
