Progress on the bmw1602.com car ...** UPDATED 09/16/24 *

  • 4 years later...

I havn't been here in literally years.... unfortunately some of the pics in my thread are gone referencing my old website for the car. I have to spend some time and re-do that site and get it back up......lots of history.... for now bmw1602.com is still down. It will be back and better.

My career has taken off and I just been working non-stop for the last 7 years or so.... also last year I also started a company CNC machining accessories for the DJI ronin camera stabilizer and some other stuff. www.cinemilled.com... that has taken off also....which leave even less garage time.

My few days off I go desert racing on my dirt bike and trail wheeling/camping in my FJ Cruiser.

.....also got married a couple years ago..... amazing how fast the years fly by.

I am a Union Local 600 camera operator. I mostly do 3D, steadicam and underwater.

Most of the time I work as a steadicam operator.

I have worked as a cinematographer on a video for Slash and did my first feature. It happened to be Brazil (my home country) first live action 3D movie. It was stressful working as the cinematographer on a 4million feature but a dream come true to film in my home country.

I am also a active member of the prestigious SOC. (society of camera operators) so when you see my name in the credits now it reads "Pedro Guimaraes, SOC"

I work mainly on feature films, commercials and a few music videos.

You can follow me on instagram @m3pedro lots of cinema/set stuff on there

....yes i've been busy...

So i have a good excuse......but it's time to get this project done.

I finally moved into a house with a garage.

No more e36M3....

My 1602 has mostly sat there ignored. nono.gif

I have on occasion gotten some work done on it.

Still a long list of things to get done.

-Fabricate a new mount for the steering colum.
-Fabricate a dash, install gauges.
-Fabricate a radiator mount.
-Install Accusump.
-Install tranny
-Fabricate and make the gas pedal work.
-fabricate exhaust.
-Fabricate rear firewall to separate fuel cell from drivers compartment (per rules)
-Get suspension aligned and corner balanced.

-Fire up the engine for the first time.

maybe not such a long list......but at the pace im going might be next millenium.

Since my FJ is going to a race shop to get major work done.....because what is the best thing to tow a race car? a race truck? lol.gif

I will have some time on my hands next few months.....maybe I get cracking on this thing and get it done.

Wish me luck.

hahaha, Yes Tommy..... your teasing is nothing compared to my friends teasing me about this......in the beginning I had very little money but lots of time....now less time....

I hope your not right!

Because the danger is me getting tired of looking at it and selling it. I doubt if it is running I can sell it. So.... time to make it run!

hhahahahaha

Tommy was almost right!

Its now 2018 and I have a 5 month old daughter.

That said.....I finally gave in and dropped the car off with Matt / Ronin Autoworks and he is finishing everything and making it tech/race ready.

As my daughter is being born....I realized if I dont get to the track this year....the car will dissapear. It was just the motivation I needed!

Tentative shakedown at the track is Sept 15th.... maybe I'll race that weekend or I'll just keep it to testing. The Goal was Oktoberfest race in oct.6th.

let see wish me luck.

I have posted lots of updates on instagram.....including a full photo history of the build 400+ photos.

I will see if I have some time and I will update the thread here also.

I have finally grown up.......now I have a wife, a mortgage and a proper tow rig.

The days of me towing with my mom's Toyota 4runner are over. Now have a proper tow vehicle......

Actually gets better mpg when i towed the race car.....actually didnt even feel I had anything hooked up.

This thing could tow a house. 2017 Ford superduty F250  925ft. lbs of torque will do that.

Since I'm very involved with the off-road world here in So cal....I met some amazing sheet metal artists

Decided to take the car down to see one of them to do my rear firewall, beadroll some class into my door panels and fabricate a tranny tunnel console for my buttons etc.

Also mount the new CSL dash.
