Progress on the bmw1602.com car ...** UPDATED 09/16/24 *

Recommended Posts

That’s the goal....last race of the season! If all works out, I’ll be there on Friday.... to shake the car down, break-in the motor, diff and of course blast the cobwebs from my driving skills.... IF nothing starts leaking or falling off ....and the car & driver is up to it.... then I’ll be there to race on Sat/Sun in B-Sedan. Let’s see if the racing gods feel like throwing me a bone...

Well shit.... today was not in the cards... broken intake stud, we tried drilling it out... no dice. Had to pull the intake off to get it out .... ate up a lot of time and then when putting it back on we started to find more issues. I just decided to play it safe and just throw in the towel and not spend the money on the entry fee today. Didn’t want to push things and maybe cause more damage or DNF.... oh well ... not completely unexpected...

Bummer I’m missing the first race of the year and that it’s a really fun one at Cal speedway.... things are a bit tight financially at the moment and I just got back from vacation.... just ran out if time to work on the car and get it ready. Good news is that now I have plenty of time to address all the issues, maybe dyno the car and do a few track days before the next race which is March 23rd at Willow Springs. Time to get busy!

Whoever milled my old intake did a horrible job. For some dumb reason I never bothered to check and it’s waaay off!! Plus my paper gasket was just as bad!! This must of been costing me serious HP!!....the intake ports were just as bad....way smaller than the gaskets... time to start grinding my new intake and gasket matching it to my head and to the carb....

The benefits of having a CNC machine at my disposal.... got a 1/2” phenolic/Bakelite carb spacer from Redline... it is also cast for a 32/36mm carb. So we carefully Milled it out on the machine and it now matches my new canon intake perfectly .... the spacer adds a bit more volume to the mixing chamber in the intake and thermally isolates the carb from the cast aluminum intake
