I don't know any details, but I was blown away by it. I walked up to it from behind and thought "what a nice clean 1600 cabrio" Then I looked closer and saw the interior and under the hood. WOW!!

If that is the same car that I saw a couple of years ago, it was originally manila in color. I saw it when it was under construction. The engine was installed as well as the transmission. The rear subframe was cut and welded to adapt an E30 M3 differential as well. The dash and steering wheel were installed as well. It was a person who simply dictated what they wanted and had the shop do the work. The person who did the work on the car that I saw was Rick Haner in Santa Rosa, CA.

Rick Haner runs a shop called HanerHaus in Santa Rosa. Autocrosser, Racer, top notch mechanic/fabricater, and really GOOD guy. Known him for many years, but I haven't spoke to him in quite a while. I'll have to drop in when I'm up there again.

it's a 1600 vollcabrio (full convertible), owned by Rich Hackett.

it's been in the Roundel a few times a long while back in it's stock phase.

He's had it since the early seventies. Back then in the 70's there were

only about 5 cabrios in the whole US, and he arranged a meeting where

all 5 cabrios showed up.

anyways, it has a full E30 M3 drivetrain, and dash. When I first

saw it, it had been living for the longest time at HanerHaus apart in Santa Rosa

(at one of the Bay Area 02 swap meets) where all the conversion work was being done....

how I originally met Rich Hackett was somewhat of a rare coincidence.

I just happened to be driving my cabrio in Mountain View, CA

after exiting the freeway looking for gas. and then suddenly he

drives by in his blue cabrio, so we both pull over and talk....

Now what are the odds of 2 vollcabrios ( 1 of 1681 and 1 of 200)

actually randomly encountering each other on the road.......

thought that was pretty amazing.
