Son's project car started

Today we pulled the engine from my son's '75. I purchase it about a year ago with a bad engine knock. We will be replacing its engine with one from our '74 and bolting all the emission equipment from the '75 on it (it’s required here in Colorado). He is 16yrs old and armed with a driver’s permit. This will be his first car. Let the fun begin!

Here the latest update.

Last weekend, we pulled the good engine from the parts car and manage to get all the accessories off to make it basically a short block. The block was cleaned and Por-15 was applied.

This weekend we began by cleaning up all the smog stuff to put on the good engine. Started to reassemble using new gaskets and seals. We did run into a problem, our lower end "gasket kit" was short the gaskets for the upper timing chain cover. What a pisser!

All in all, it's going well. My son is doing a fantastic job and is learning a great deal as we go.

Hopefully next weekend, we'll get it installed.

Thats my friends bike and this is his garage. I don't know that much about it except it's a 2003 remake of a 50's Royal Enfield. Thay are still being manufactured in India with upgraded electronics and such.

We got the car running today and we got to drive her home. I had a little issue with the firing order, but once I figured it out she started without hesitation. She actually runs pretty well for a car that's been sitting about a year. The brake pedal takes a lot of effort to apply the brakes. I will try to put some fresh brake fluid and bleed the system and see what happens. The auto tranny leaks at the speedo shaft so time to replace the seal.

Now to enjoy her for a while, then off to the emissions testing. Once she passes emissions then she’ll get a fresh coat of paint.

Here are some before pics prior to going to the body shop. I pulled off all the trim, glass and bumbers before sending it for paint.

It will be painted in the orginal color, Malaga. My body/paint guy will be using PPG two -stage paint. The drivers door had the most damage. At some point in it's life the door brake broke and the door swung too far and dented it.
