Esty suggests thinning matched paint then attaching it to one of those universal spray things - sounds like a good idea - but seems like too much could go wrong.

most paint suppliers can mix paint and load it in a spray bomb...in comparison, it's expensive and poor quality though

I'm not too worried about an exact match as its for the front valence/air dam on my e30 318is, where i believe the body has an underlayment of a rubberized textured coating. The paint is so rough that you can't rub it out even if you wanted to, but it really takes a beatng from road debris etc.
