Pics of your Center Console...

I have had time to mess around in the woodshop while a 1972 '02 is being restored by the excellent crew at Sports Car Restoration in CT. My console was falling apart and had thought that a curved wooden console would look good. After having done this I think it might be too much of a contrast with the rest of the interior, even though it is tan. This would certainly not work with black.

That looks very nice mate - it would seem a shame not to use it. Maybe you could cover the sides in vinyl to tie it into the interior a bit better. I think it would look good.

that's nice work....one could always paint it black...rubbing & building layers like they do with painted furniture or...black crinkle coat

very nice work

Thanks. Yes... a black lacquer finish like you see on Chinese furniture. That might not look bad at all. That would actually be a lot easier than the natural wood, which is unforgiving at glue/join lines and also easy to go through the veneer which can't be more than .020" thick. I went through in a few spots.

  • 7 years later...

Actually I need some new side panels, or at least to re-cover the old ones, but still I am quite proud of my center console.  It consists of:

A $4 pastic cd/cup holder console from Autozone:

And a Galaxy Tab 7 sandwiched between a 2x4 and 2 pieces of carpet trim, which serves for my music, GPS, and Gauges/Megasquirt interface via bluetooth (running Shadow Dash: http://tunerstudio.com/index.php/shadowdashmsmenu)

The Megasquirt box and mini-amp are both back behind the tablet under the heater box.

Pretty cool, eh?

Beautiful.  Lovely sheen to the finish.

Brazilian Rosewood was the perfect choice, IMO.

Are you a guitar builder, by chance?

Very clean execution.

No, Just a 2002 owner with way too much time on my hands. The wood did come from a Luthier supply co.
