Picture request: stock center console with radio

PatAllen

Recommended Posts

I am looking for a picture of a stock center console with a radio and the speaker mounted under it.

-i have a console

-i have the elusive mono speaker

-i have a period corect radio

now all i want to see it how this is assembled. It looks like the pocket under the ash tray will be blocked off totaly when it will go in, or i am missing something...

does the radio was/could be mounted without the mono speaker or it was always with ??

thanks.

is that factory grill or did you 'fab"it?

It's the correct plastic faceplate and mono grill for a Blaupunkt radio, '72 -'76- non-A/C console. The radio is a Frankfurt AM/FM model from a '75. Note the "BMW" ID on the dial surround and silver-centered, dash-matched knobs.

Not "fabbed."

There are vintage pics in the factory brochure pdf on Keith Kreeger's site:

Stock Blaupunkt Frankfurt with Mono Speaker (Metal Grill). The Blaupunkt is period correct I believe for my '73tii, but the speaker is probably from a pre-'72 '02. I like it better than the plastic setup. Bought the grill assembly at '02 Fest East many years ago and upgraded to a new Radio Shack 6"x9" Speaker. Zoom in the pic and you can see it better.

Thanks for the clean pictures everyones !!

I still have a question, the opening under the speaker grille, is there anything that i should know , cardboard plate or so that goes there ??

I have a metalic plate just under the grille that is horizontal once assembled...i dont see its purpose. its ends get to the end of the radio.

??

Lower panel is stock console bottom: single sided masonite with glued-on vinyl surface.

The "L" or "S" profile metal panel protects the radio from the stuff that gets pushed in the now-restricted console opening.

The masonite panel is flat -- about 14" in length. It attaches to the shift surround at the rear, and sits in a groove in the spacer at the front.

Cheers!

The back of my metal plate on the bottom turns down and almost closes the back of the small space below the speaker/radio. Because of the angle of the faceplate and the metal plate it creates a diminishing space as it goes forward(or back into the console). I put a small piece of black rubber mat in the bottom to keep things from sliding around in that space. I keep my MP3 player there.

See my pic for details showing the angles involved.

Good luck,

Check this page at realoem.com:

The vinyl-covered panel is #3 in the pic.
