Nice work Matt. As usual. Very interestingly, Matt and I discussed (maybe 10 years ago, if not more) about reinforcing 2002 rockers by using Targa reinforcement sections, or Völl Cabriolet sections. It looks like Matt found a better and more cost efficient way to do it.

I have always admired Matt's ingenuity. His work on 2002s should place him in the cercle of the best places in the world to have a 2002 restored or modified. Keep on the good work.

I do believe that there is talk of Lee's Massive brakes(E 30) and 5 lug wheels for the wagon.

Andy, we have inded discused several possibilities. Everything is possible. From front 2002 and rear e30 (car will have e30 subframe) to front and rear e30 M3 brakes. It all will depend on what wheels will be used.

  • 4 weeks later...

We finished the e30 subframe and mounted it in the car about two weeks ago. With a standard offset 02 panasport 15 the flare was filled without spacers. Now we need some m3 trailing arms and the rear will be ready to go.

Andy,

As far as wheels I keep imagining a set of 16" bbs RS with Lee's Massive rally set up in front. What do you think?

Hi Nate

Your car will be a showcase of technical achievements. It's probably watched all over the world now. 15"or 16"? I guess you could use 15" for driving around and 16" for the usual show'n'shine or drive down the main strip on Saturday night, with War's "Low Rider" pumping from your powerfull stee-ree-oh...

I suggest you stay with 4 lug hubs. Front Tii and rear e30. It'll be easier to fit a BBK than with front e30 M3 hubs. That is because on a 2002, the rotors about 2" more inward than with a front e30 or e30 ///M rotor.

Fitting brakes to the front of a 2002 is easy. With rear e30 (4 lugs) hubs, you'll be able to get the new rear e30 Race kit with 11.75" x 1.25" rotors and stock ebrake system using factory brake shoes.
