the car iv got nearly a year ago. got it from a dealership that my cousin works at. when i got it brakes weren't working, either was engine.

and looked in a pretty sad state (still does!).

so this was almost a year ago when i got the engine running and it was running pretty bad. i got the brakes fixed by a mechanic. (bear in mind i dont have much mechanical ability i decided to bring it to a mechanic and it was Hard TO FIND A GUY TO EVEN LOOK AT A 34 YEAR OLD CAR!)

I got the brakes overhauled for and she seemed pretty nice and on the drive home i noticed she was loosing power so i was half a mile from the house and she CAVED in!

took out the plugs and they were covered with oil and when i seen this i realised the link between the excessive BLACK SMOKE COMIN' OUT OF THE EXAUST!

So near my work there's a place called "Gala Precision Engineering" and these guys are the best, coming from a guy who is new to engine repair these lads are very eager and interested. they do great work too. Above and beyond the call of duty.

so i gave them the engine and they had it for about a month over the summer( delay in parts from Germany) and they restored it and it now runs on unleaded.they cleaned it up too and hopefully they did a great job (as of yet hasnt been tested cos its still on mechanics Floor!)

so after that was got, i brought it to mechanic and said i should get a new clutch kit first...so............i went into my nearest bmw dealership

and how much did they say for disc, plate and release bearing ...........€510

and how long did they say id have to wait?? ..........until the bmw factory gets a sufficient amount of orders so they can MAKE the parts!

so i tried Jamic.co.uk on the off chance they might have refurbished kits and turns out they DID! and only around 120 british pounds

but after a month of waiting and them saying "you should get it this monday" i returned to bmw dealership and the actually had the parts in stock, even though i never ordered them in, so i took em!

so that was November 2007 and im still waiting on my mechanic friend to put the car back together....

i intend on making this car totally Stock, re-chromed, new paint, new interior.

as far as i know there are only and handful of tii's in Ireland so i cant wait to wave the flag for '02 guys here.

Wednesday 13th August, i transported the car to a new mechanic in celbridge, he got it running about 15 minutes so i guess all it takes is a little intelligence. guys charging 70euro($105) an hour but at least he's good!

He's takin the injector pump apart to determine the problem with it.

If all goes well i could have this car by Saturday.

Got it back from the mechanic, ended up payin him 2100 euro just to get the thing driving,

got engine reconditioned and fitted about 6 months ago but there was a few problems and it wouldn start so i brought it to a specialist. he charged 70 euro an hour and he called me up saturday sayin it was ready and i had a good day in it saturday but on sunday the thermostat started to rise so i pulled it over and sure enough it was starting to overheat.

funny thing is temp guage stays normal when in idle but while driving it overheats

Your car looks really great and I am sorry you had such a rough time of it.

The overheat issue is something the cars come with, but given the age of the car the temp guage is also prone to indicating higher than it really MAY be because of a faulty/deteriorated ground on the cluster. Easy enough to check, put on the headlights, and if your temp goes up instantly at the same time thats part of the problem.

You can, from simplest to most expensive : change the thermostat from an 85 deg to a 75 deg, see what happens (and this assumes your coolant is right) and then change the radiator to an E30 radiator.

Most people do away with the engine fan and go to an electric fan setup, which means you will also need an e30 alternator to give you 130 amps but the good news is that it's a direct fit.

Good luck and keep your beast running!

Is fuel efficiency really what we need most desperately? I say what we really need is a car that can be shot when it breaks down.
