If anyone could help me understand where my problem might be. My 02 is lower on the passenger rear wheel that the other three wheels, could it be the rear spring?

thanks...

have you gotten under your car for a look-see?

without any additional information, i'd want to know whether you're dealing with a rust issue or 'rust-free' example.

check the condition of the rubber pads between the springs, mounting point under the rear quarter panel, shock tower, to name a few places.

itself. While uncommon for BMW springs to break, it's been known to happen....hope it isn't a rust issue; that'll be a costly one to fix properly.

cheers

Hopefully, could be the spring. However, may also be the subframe bushing mount rusted through the floor pan under the back seat, which is obviously not good, nor cheap to fix. Good luck.

I am not sure to which reply I am suppose to reply, but I hope all that have helped so far can read this. The car is clean, no rust, rubber boots and pad in good condition. I had it all apart this weekend and was considering swapping rear springs with one of my other '02s. Before I do this I wanted to see if the spring was the problem and then consider upgraded springs like I have on my son's '02. Yes I have a family of four and four '02s.

thanks for all the help so far.[/i]

all the valid points above plus:

give us the FULL history of the car

When did this appear ?

alway there since you owned car?

after hitting pot hole?

after repairs?

original spriings?

is rubber spring pad present at top of spring -

visible from outside wheel opening

1-Dot thin pad, 2-Dot med. thickness Pad, 3-Dot pad is the thickest pad

clean and look at the edge of the pads to determine which

pads you have. Just a very thin insulator rubber should be

at the bottom of the rear springs.

Look at the camber of the rear wheel and compare with the other one. Unmatched springs, spacers, anti sway setting, or bent frame elements can all contribute. If the trailing arm was changed, it may be of a differnt camber. Same with the subframe, the bracket on the subframe where the trailing arm attaches is critical. Different years had differnt settings. And there are a couple out there that are from racing that might have ended at the salvage yard If you install one of those, your camber is going to be off. There are eccentric bushings for correcting this.

Thanks... I will check these items before my next step. The arms does appear to be in good condition and this sagging has existed since I get the car, no holes or bumps that I know of.
