I won't go so far as to say I wouldn't own an '02 without the sunroof, but it's close. I think the german sunroofs work great - at least my experiences with '02 and Rabbit roofs has been good. I have a 76 from San Diego that has a pristine body I saved a sunroof clip to put on. Drilling out the welds and using the skin makes the most sense to me.
