got caught up in the East Coast dock strike that year so wasn't delivered to me until 4 May 1969 at Bavarian Motors, Queens New York. Fortieth "second series" USA '69 built. And for your rock 'n roll trivia buffs, 10 years and a day after Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and the Big Bopper were killed in a plane crash.

Currently in winter hibernation (Wolfgang, not Buddy Holly), undergoing surgery to replace front suspension bushings 'n bearings after 39 years and 218k miles.

Glenn Miller actually died in Dec 1944-and about ten or so years ago they finally figured out what probably happened to his aircraft... it disappeared on a flight from London to Paris and was never found, as it probably crashed into the English Channel.

The apparent cause was a flight of Lancaster bombers returning to England after a weather-aborted bombing raid. They jettisoned their bombs (you don't land with a full bomb load) over the Channel, unaware of any aircraft flying below them. One of the bombs must have struck the plane Miller was in--even if it didn't detonate, it would have cause the aircraft to crash.
