If you live here in The City (that's San Francisco if you live in places like, say, Modesto.), you know Gus Van Sant and Universal Studios are doing a film about the murders of City Supervisor Harvey Milk and Mayor George Moscone back in the late 1970s. The film stars Sean Penn as Harvey Milk and many of the scenes are shot "on location" in the Castro neighborhood. Harvey's Camera Shop has been recreated in its original building and the Castro Theater and other landmarks have gotten some sprucing up for the filming.

I participated in one of the candlelight vigils late last Friday (the 9th). It was an amazing, cathartic experience for all who were there.

Here's a pic of some of the "on location" shooting, complete with Amazonasgrun (Jadegrun?) Squarie.

Watch for the film. It is expected to be released before the November elections.

Seems I've called it "frisco" all my life, and I'm not from Modesto. I still call it frisco just to piss off those "City" people.

Of course, being born and raised from the central coast is probably why.

my father was born and raised in san francisco and always referred to it as "frisco". his father worked the railroads in that town and brewed bathtub gin during prohibition.

when i was growing up, san francisco was actually pronounced

san fruncisco, and to my knowledge, still is by people of a certain age.

but we digress. it's still a good 02 driving town.
