Recharging Behr A/C

Thinking about doing this myself. Here is the system diagram. Where is the charge port? Is there a recharge kit?

If the system has been empty for some time, you will need to replace some items, the reciever drier at a minimum. Also depending on what refrigerant used, R12 or R134a, the drier will have to be compatible. The lubricant in the compressor is refrigerant specific as well. Then after all is correct, you will need to draw a vacuum for at least 30 minutes to ensure the system has no leaks. Then you are ready to recharge using a set of hi/low pressure gauges also refrigerant specific. If you will be using R134a, you need to consider new barrier hoses. R12 is not available to the general public unless you have a license to handle it.

It worked when I bought it. But it has been abourt three years since it had refrigrn't in system. I'll look for a shop in a while and have them fill it. Thanks.

Hypothetically, if this were the good old days, and I just purged the system. How long would it typically take to vacuum the system?

Rule of thumb is thirty minutes minimum.

About an hour to an hour and a half, provided there are no problems.
