Sorry to hear about your car.

My experience with cars that were in a proximity to fire but not engulfed in flames, is that the insurance company will total out the vehicle regardless, because of liability. They don't wan't someone to come back a year later and hold them responsible for brake failure because an attorney can claim that the lines were heated up and weakened in the fire, so as a result the insurance company is liable.

Best of luck, I hope everything turns out for best.

The first moment you can get someone in there, GET AN INDEPENDENT CLASSIC CAR APPRAISER IN THERE! When I was in a accident in my '66 1508028 I had an appraiser do the car up while it was still at the tow yard, before the insurance company got their beady little eyes on it! The appraisal in 2000 came out to 6K. The body estimate came out to $5300 or so. I got a check from AAA for 5K and kept a clear title including the original California black plates. I needed the money for other things at the moment and still haven't gotten around to getting the bodywork done yet. One of these days..... The red one is first in line for body & paint though. :)
