SoCal Vintage Drive is ON! 6/29

Recommended Posts

Just a quick note, and I'll post details later. We're doing the SoCal Vintage BMW drive & hike on a cool loop through the Angeles Crest on Sunday, June 29, probably no later than 8AM start. We'll hike at Switzer Falls, and then come back to John Barlow's place for a bbq midday. We went on the loop in John's S50 powered 318i (cripes) and we did it a lot faster than the rest of us will do it in 3 1/2 weeks. Mark the calendar. I'll get details up later (it's a little different than the route on the website). Small donation for the bbq and parking in the Angeles Forest is $5 for the day pass (http://www.kinsail.com/results.asp?p=socal&pt=store&DisplayType=Short&GroupID=6701&ItemID=116101).....wheeee!

Bump...Thanks for planning it, Jeff. I will mark my calendar and try to make it. Is the starting point the same as your original plan? Anyone else from SB south going?

Steve,

I'm going to try to set this up in the next day or two through the SoCal Vintage website so I can collect the $5 bbq donation through there - I can also see who exactly will be coming. Please let the guys in SB know, if they don't already. Oh, did I forget to mention that if you register for the meet (or already have) you do not have to pay for the BBQ - ITS FREE! LOL, but you still have to pay the Forest Service for the parking.....

Roger, et al.....

We really would love the OC and any SD guys to come up and be part of all of this, it's an important component of unifying all of the Southern California Vintage BMW community. John should be getting a call to Andy to help rally the troops down there. We really want crank up and sponsor a drive in OC as well, to spread the fun events around, so any input on fun routes is VERY welcome. One can toast marshmallows at the BBQ afterwards at John's place, but I suspect you'll have to do it over your exhaust manifold! We've coerced one of his neighbors (Bubba's Q) to handle the meat-type goods, as a preview of the great food we'll have in October. Remember, if you register for the meet, the meat (BBQ) is on us. I'll have all the info up on the website this weekend (been a hellish week) so my apologies for not getting that up sooner. I've not gotten to ring the bell as much to the E3, E9, NK and Vintage crowd as much so everyone feel free to pass the word, they all need to be part of this as well. I've heard the hike isn't so bad, an hour or two, just something to change it up and spend some time since the drive route is only about 50 miles....John and I have been calling it the Enduro Drive/Hike.....we'll break the groups up according to driving tolerances...LOL!

If any of you have been trying to register for the drive through the socalvintagebmw.com website and having difficulties I apologize. There are some software glitches with MotorSportReg.com's new release, and currently there is only the choice 'I've Already Registered' referring to the October meet, which will give you a freebie on the drive/hike bbq. My apologies for any issues, I've contacted them yesterday and waiting to hear back, I'm sure they're out racing somewhere while I'm piloting my laptop through cyber potholes. There are no issues with registering for the October meet, and if you do so go right ahead and sign up for the drive as well, which is already set up as free for pre-registrants. Sorry for any problems.

Also, I've been trying to get the word out to the Vintage BMW community as a whole, posting on Bimmerforums and e9coupe.com - Do any of you have a good sense as to where the E3, NK, Isetta and Vintage crowd hang out online? Thanks.

Ok, sorry for any problems for anyone who tried to register for the Angeles Crest drive on 6/29. Everything should be in order now, if not, please let me know. Go to the socalvintagebmw.com website, and click the Angeles Crest Enduro link on the Warm Up drives page. Everything should work properly from there. Let's get as many guys signed up as we can and have a great drive and hike...

Just a heads up to anyone who already registered or is thinking of going on the Angeles Crest run. The Forest service parking passes (see link above) take a week or so to get shipped out to you, so you may want to order those soon - the ranger station won't be open when we blow by it! Thanks.

My apologies for not looking into this further - apparently when you go to buy a day parking pass in the Angeles National Forest online, they wack you with a $4.95 shipping charge on top of the $5 fee, which feels excessive to me for sending a 3 ounce pass. If you go to this page:

http://www.fs.fed.us/r5/sanbernardino/ap/vendors.php

You'll find locations close to you where you can pick them up in person, and save the $4.95 for a gallon of gas. If you are planning on joing us for the drive/hike/BBQ PLEASE go on the socalvintagebmw.com website and go to the registration pages and sign up as soon as possible. We're less than two weeks away and we have to know how much food to order! Remember, if you register for the meet before the drive, you get the BBQ for FREE!! Thanks again.
