help! can't get the horn to shut up w/o disconnecting it

i'm at a loss as to how to troubleshoot this problem without having to listen to that blasted horn while i probe around. if the horn is connected it goes on when i turn the ignition key on. my only solution at this point is to disconnect the yellow/brown wire at the horn.

any help, suggestions.

Did you recently remove the steering wheel or the plastic shroud around the steering column? See if the spring loaded pin behind the steering wheel is making contact with circular metal thing behind it (love all the techy terms don't you.)

well, i didn't explicitly confirm contact with the spring-loaded contact, but i did rub some dielectric grease on it when i reattached the OEM steering wheel. i'll check into that.

shouldn't it be an open circuit until the horn button is depressed??

somehow i've got a closed circuit. something's making contact where it shouldn't, i'm guessing.

suppose i'll just put earplugs on and to heck with the neighbors.... while i try to sort this out.

I just had the same problem with the 72. It was the ring and the pin was out of kilter. disconnect your horn and connect your trouble-light in its place and you can see it light up...or not. Makes it a much more pleasant repair.
