A 68 2002 looking for a home

This is kinda like finding an 02 in a barn, except it's in Concord, CA (a city of 100,000 without barns). A friend's parents have this 68 which hasn't been driven in about 10 years. The grandfather gave it to the friend's brother who did nothing with it so the car has been in the garage or on the driveway in Concord, CA since. So this is in reality a one owner car. The car was driven in Oakland, CA all its life and has lain fallow in Concord for the last 10+ years.

Its got 170,x35 (end of speedo needle obscures the x digit) miles and the VIN is 1662166. The car was in operating condition when it was last garaged. They say it was last started about 3 years ago. The title is suppose to be good, though the parents have to get a replacement pink. It's currently registered non-operational. I've seen the repair binder which goes back to 3/5/1969 at 4187 miles, and ends at 9/18/1995 at 169, 366 miles, so the history looks legit. Car has the original owner's manual and tool kit.

I have no financial interest in this car. Just doing a favor for the friend and looking for a good home for this 68.

Here's some pictures (more available):

was approx 1662858. If the paint's the original color, I'd be surprised. Chamoix cars didn't come with caramel/tobacco brown interiors and carpets; on '68s they were either blue or black. Either that or someone swapped out the interior, including the carpets.

Nice unmolested early '02 with all the features--smooth steering wheel center, no ribs on the dash top, wide front seat backs with no headrests, no side markers etc.

Someone grab this!

I didn't even notice that. I thought the underside of the hood looked like a funny color. Here's a picture of the back of the hood. I'm going over to the car and check the color now and report back.

The car color is manila. The exposure of my pictures just make it look white. In reality, the manila is very pale and shooting in the garage with indirect light means tough to get good color rendition. The condition of the paint in the trunk is in pretty good shape and it's original and it's manila.

you're KILLING me, showing cars like this in need of a home.

i sure hope it stays in California so those wonderful, original black plates can be retained.

it has all the aspects of an unrestored, original 02 i really enjoy.

hope it finds a sympathetic caretaker.

Sorry, guys. I did forward on all your requests to the father. I talked to him and he said he'll be in touch very shortly. He's had scheduling issues. Please be patient. I did hear he had a mechanic friend over and they're going to get a battery and try and start the motor.
