wheel arch stone guard

They are a nice original accessory but when they are compared to the 'stone guards' that Mick McCartney refers to, I think that is incorrect. From memory, the way McCartney describes 'his' stone guards they are made of aluminium, I think, and fit up under the front wheel arches to stop mud being thrown forward to the back of the indicator light, front of the wing.

This type of stone guard sounds very useful- now if someone could remake those I would be on board.

Need to find my copy of the restoration guide and re read that section

My memory of Macartney's guide was the same as yours, and that he was talking about front wheel well guards, but I have searched the book and can only find a reference to the poncy rear wheel arch leading edge variety! I think everybody thought that these type of things were rather naff at the time. A bit like those clip on side window draft excluders.

I can remember talking to Keith Morley, Jaymic's workshop manager, about these or very similar plastic/abs ones during the late 90s. They seemed like a good idea to me, then, but in retrospect, I fear that the fit would allow mud etc, to lie trapped against un-rustproofed chassis and bodywork.

This is something interesting!!! So when Le was driving through Novato in his m2... I noticed these uber cool and rare stone arch guards!!... So I looked it up in my restoration book and low and behold ....!! They are another cool accessory that I've not really seen before! I had to find me a set! I don't know if they will look appealing on Tesoro or not, but I'll have to find out later.... In the meantime, guess what I just got in the mail....!

  • 5 years later...

Some years ago I had the opportunity to access these original pieces. As I found it to be a very exclusive and interesting accessory, I took the opportunity to make a metal bucket. With this I made 5 sets and sold them with very very good positive feedback from buyers (check my Facebook page: Zundfolge 1342 - fb://photo/1569577009970915?set=a.1565074283754521). Currently I have been asked to make 3 more sets, so if any of you want a set, let me know.

Best regards,
