Anyone install a newer horn?

I bought a nearly identical-to-stock pair of Hella horns from Griot's Garage (actually a Christmas present) and installed one in my ' 75 and one in my wife's ' 76. That match the stock Hellas on the driver's side and the mounting hole is already there on the passenger-side hood support upright. The new ones were red, so I spray-painted them satin black before installing. Twice the volumn of horn now, and people certain notice if I have to use 'em. They're $70 from Griots', so I think a search will turn up a slightly lower price somewhere.

i love airs. loud and if you just toot toot, can be a friendly sound. or if you lay on em, an angry wail! >:-D

Yup...I love my airs too. A very Euro sound. I used the 3-horn Hella hit from http://www.rallylights.com. It had everything needed, except I added hose to mount the horns up front with the compressor mounted in the engine bay.

The newer red Hellas are very loud, slightly smaller than the originals, don't pay more than $12 each. Susquehanna has them. Matt, I can get them from a friend if you want, brand new.

My '68 has dual (note?) Hella horns already, I think they are quite loud. Do later cars only have a single horn?

Ben

The dual horns were on my Touring when I got it in 1986. They are plenty loud enough. Both Hella & Bosch supplied BMW with one 400hz & one 335hx horn. These are still available (afaik) for around $50 each. They also appear on ebay from time to time, but usually in singles (hi or lo tone), and they are shaped sorta kinda like a horn.
