at the age of 84. I must have watched his show 500 times or more in the early to mid 1960's. The show ran locally out of WCPO channel 9 from 1950 to 1985. You could get tickets and be on the show as one of the dozens of kids in the audience. His wife, Wanda, was his sidekick, Captain Windy, who would read to the kids & draw pictures for them. He would tell funny stories and play his accordian. A big deal was the "Birthday Merry Go Round" for tots having a birthday the day of the show. ... wheee! There must have been something similar in just about every TV market back then. In Louisiana they had "Buckskin Bill" on for many, many years out of a station in Baton Rouge.

Uncle Al had a reputation for shoving tots out of the way if they got between him and the TV cameras... ha ha He accused my big brother of lying that it was his birthday while cameras were rolling -- though Al was right, he was lying to him!

WE LOST OUR "UNCLE PAUL" SOME TIME AGO .

HE HAD A KIDS SHOW ON CHANNEL 5 IN RALEIGH .

HE ALWAYS WORE A TOP HAT AND HAD COKE-BOTTLE GLASSES

ON THE SHOW . AS IT TURNED OUT , THE GLASSES WERE REAL .

HE BANGED OUT BIRTHDAY SONGS ON HIS PIANO AND MARCHED

THE KIDS A CIRCLE EVERY DAY FOR 25 YEARS .

AFTER THE SHOW WAS CANCELED , HE GOT WORK AS A JAZZ PIANIST

SO THAT WAS REAL TOO .
