Console Rebuild using Parker Performance Radio mount

I've had this radio sitting around for a couple of years and finally took it apart and cleaned it up. It really just needed new bulbs installed. Then I installed it in my 2002 console using one of the single DIN radio mounts available from Mark Parker (www.parkerperformance.com). I'm really happy with the results.

Looking good John. You really need that DIN radio mount, it is the only way to properly mount a vintage radio in the Parker consoles.

The Becker Europa and similar Mexico use DIN holes whereas the Blaupunkt Frankfurt and others use the earlier style and will not work in a DIN hole.

hmmm .... there are DIN radio mounts for the Blaupunkt Frankfurt and co. as well. I'll post a picture in the morning.

I also ordered one of the Parker Performance shaft style radio mounts. It will fit a Blaupunkt Frankfurt style radio, but the cut-out is a little bit too big so requires the use of a face plate. Here's what that one ended up looking like.

This is how mine looks. The Blaupunkt Frankfurt radio face plate is the exact same size as the DIN cut-out in the PP console, so I had to use a slightly larger generic face plate between the console and the radio face plate in order to tighten the radio with the shaft nuts.

In hindsight, I should have paid a few dollars more and asked Mark Parker to make a custom cut for the radio in the console. Too late now.

Just ordered one of the single DIN mounts from Kooglewerks. What supports the radio w/in the console? In other words, I don't imagine that all the weight of the radio is supported by the faceplate panel?

You probably need to rig something up with a perforated steel strip to make a bracket for the rear. This is a kind of ‘roll yer own’ deal.

When we designed our console faceplate/panels, I was more focused on the gauges and switches... the radio being more of a "bonus" option. (& after years of installing the "flavor of the month" stereo configuration, it just made more sense to leave the details up to the installer & keep the design simple on the part)

My Parker faceplate has a “tongue” on the back that the radio lays on, must say that both the koogle and Parker setups look great.

That knob right to the hazard seems to be a BMW. And the printing on it? Never seen before. A/C or...?
