Many of the early 2002s also received this antennna courtesy of the local dealer. I can't view your picture here at work so I don't know if it's the one you posted.

I would also like to find a new one or one in better condition. Because they have a longer base the Hirschmann won't cover the existing mounting holes. VWs used a similar antenna known as a Tombstone but it doesn't look quite right. Coupeking uses a Datsun truck antenna that is very similar and the cap is plastic and clips to the base.

Hi,

The one in HB Chris 's photo is a Harada model that was used on trucks in the 60 & 70s. Harada has since deleted their entire aftermarket inventory and no longer carry replacement units.

Before there was a BMW NA, the radio kits were not supplied in an orderly fashion with a uniform part numbering system but rather sourced on a regional basis. However a majority of the 02s had the Hirschman unit that is still supplied today by BMW.

Just sharing the useless trivia I have collected after being in biz since '87.

HTH,

My 1973 tii has that same antenna as in HB Chris 's photo.

I've heard that the Harada PM21D works pretty good, but haven't tried one. I think they're still available if you search around in internet land.

John S,

Interesting. Looks the base is a bit shorter and may not cover the original mounting holes plus it needs a big hole for the antenna lead. That may be where Peter gets his antennas, if so, the cover is plastic but they do look pretty good.

Hi HBChris,

I just ordered one, so will post a pic once I receive the goods. I think the originator of this threads antenna might be the Harada PM21D without the plastic cover,

For only $6 bucks or so you can't lose!

Ya, that's what I thought. Just received a refund for the order I tried to place with: Henshaw's Electronics. Talk about customer service, the owner called me at home to tell me how sorry he was that he couldn't fulfill my order and added that some guy in San Gabriel CA bought out his entire stock a while back. Oh well. Somebody has a stash out there ;-)
