Indicator/Blinker issue??

Recommended Posts

Trying to get the Beater at least looking the part for the haul to V@V.

The green blinker light on the dash stays on all the time. The indicator lights all work fine (well, pretty good) and i've replaced the stalk/switch - green light still on all the time. (It get's brighter as I rev the motor - maybe another problem lurking?)

Any clues?

Les,

Can you get a hold of a spare flasher relay? The Chamonix '74 2002 I had developed this quirk; the green 'B' would eventually fade out though, after it stayed on for a minute or two. I replaced the unit with a spare and the problem was gone. I don't believe you can fix this by taking the rear cover of the unit off, as is the case with the 'B'blinking the first time and then going out.

The first thing I would think is that the current indicator

relay inside the flasher is stuck. It's a neat system...

that doesn't always work all that well.

If you take the cover off your flasher unit,

you'll find it- it's the one with the thick wire

(often burned or discolored) that makes up

the coil. As the lights flash, that

relay should click in and out.

I'm guessing it's stuck 'on'

Well done Tim.

Why is it I always forget to look for the obvious? Must have had a blonde (silver now!) moment.

Thank goodness for parts cars.

It's been a while Tim, hope you are well.

I've got several of these flasher units (incl what I assume is an original in an aluminum case). I've never tried to take one apart; perhaps now's the time.

Aha Les, I stand corrected ( again, of course ). Good to read a spare has worked but also by taking the cover off that it's possible also to correct that quirk. I knew by taking the cover off you could fix the contacts by bending them, to get the B to flash in sync with the blinkers on but wasn't aware that the glowing B could also be fixed. Always helpful to have another spare good unit on hand! And Les, I'm getting more of those "silver moments" myself! kind of tough to open the garage and see only a Poulon lawn mower, some garden tools, and car care items in it, looks bare without the 2000!!

Tim.
