WTB: Becker Europa II Auxiliary Pack

ought2

Recommended Posts

I picked up a Becker Europa II stereo radio this winter. Little did I realize that it needs an additional "auxiliary pack". I discovered this after talking with Becker - North America. I wouldn't know this part if I saw one, but maybe you or someone you know would. Let me know if you can help. TIA!!

I called them to see if there were some model specific plugs or cables I would need. I was all set until they asked me to read the serial number. The first thing the number revealed was that it was a 1973 radio - great! The other news was that it needed the auxiliary pack. I guess it depends on what model you have. They requested close-up photos so that they could confirm all of this. I plan to talk with them again on Monday. They do carry anything you need to restore your Becker. Maybe you'll luck out and not need additional parts. Keep me posted please!

I have the exact same setup that I just removed from my car. The auxiliary "pack" snapped into a bracket that was screwed to the bulkhead inside the glove box. I also removed a fader switch that uses the funny german-type 2-prong connectors.

Since the auxiliary unit was so light, I don't think it's an amplifier.

I don't think that it's an amp. From what people have told me since I first posted this, is that it is necessary for adapting a cassette player or even a record player. I am hoping that I won't need it to operate just the AM/FM functions. Still waiting for a reply from the company... I appreciate all of the input on this.

The unit appears to be some sort of signal splitting device (or small amplifier judging by the capacitors).

Here are some pictures I took today after removing one cover plate. There are no markings inside the unit. Outside markings are the (2) speaker connections (front left and front right) along with the 12V power. The speaker cables end in connectors that match my console mounted fader switch.

Mounting bracket (aux. unit snaps into the bracket). Mine was screwed to the bulkhead just above the glovebox.

Hi Bob,

Got off the phone with Becker of North America.

Certain models in the early 70's had the aux. pak. The Europa for sure. This will not work at all unless it has the pak. The pak is actually the head unit for the models that used it. You can tell if it needs the head unit by the big grey cable. If the unit has the grey cable then it was one of the earlier models that needs it. The head unit can be mounted on the firewall by the glovebox or anywhere from the length of the cable. It was also used as a splitter for the optional cassette deck and phonograph.

In the mid 70's (including the Europa & Europa II) 73 or 74 they condensed it into one unit. So the back is different as mine is from yours. That is why I was wondering if yours was a Europa with a Europa II faceplate. I have the later 73 that is plug and play without the grey cable and yours needs the head unit. They told me that they have them for under $100. Email that post above here and get that one that someone was offering if you still want to go this route and it works.

I'll email you tonight as I'm on the fly right now.
