Ft. Lauderdale, Miami people????

i'm leaving thursday from akron, ohio to spend a week in the ft lauderdale, miami area. (june 4th - 11th) my wife is going for a work trade show, and myself, having become recently laid off, will be joining her for the hell of it.

i've never been to either city, so i thought maybe some other '02 owners who live there, or have been there could recommend some sights or activities to check out (the more inexpensive the better) that i could do when i get tired of laying poolside drinking cocktails with little umbrellas in them.

Mike Self was raised in Ft. Lauderdale. He could give you plenty of background & history. I used to go there each April as a teen to swim in the YMCA Nationals Swim Meet. (Hall of Fame Pool) Yeeehaa. -- this was back when I was driving a bitchin' '72 Golf 2002 when Dad wasn't driving it himself!
