Collarbone

On my way to work on Friday, I was hit on my K75, breaking my collarbone in 2-places, several ribs, sternum and my big toe. Probably going to have surgery on Wednesday. Has anybody had their clavicle surgically repaired?

It knocked me out. Luckily, a lady saw me laying in the road and moved her car to protect me so that I wasn't run over. It was a 6-lane highway. I have a lot of people to thank.

PS - It freaking hurts like crazy!

Lance Armstrong just had his clavicle surgically repaired late Feb/early March. The SOB just raced the Giro in May.

When mine was broken (cycling accident with an auto), the doctor just opted to splint it and let it heal. I'll never know what could have been with my cycling career had the doctor decided to do surgery. There may have been greatness...

Glad to hear you are still kicking. The shock wears off after the first day, then the throbing/sharp pain sets in. Meds are good. Just give them a little time to kick in before you take another. (makes for interesting TV watching)

Geeez, Doug. Glad you're alive, number one. I haven't broken a clavicle, but have seen repaired ones a lot. People seem to heal up quite well, but sometimes they have a lumpy clavicle from extra deposits at the site of the fracture. Did anyone get the license number of the %$#@ bugger who hit you?? Good luck getting yourself repaired and feeling good again!!

Thanks for the kind replies. Besides the broken collarbone, my hip is bruised from my knee to just above my waist and from the front, all the way to the back of my rear end. It is the knarliest bruise I've ever seen. I couldn't see it all, so my my took a pic. It's worse than anything I had back when I raced bicycles, but this was under my body armor! I'd post the pic, but it's just too nasty.

Unfortunately, in the confusion of trying to keep me from getting ran over, the car drove away. I'm not worried about it. They know what they did.

That's the crazy part. I had full Joe Rocket body armor, head to toe! If I hadn't had it on, it would have been much, much worse. In fact, I'm sure that I'd be in critical condition. It also destroyed my brand new Shoei X-Eleven helmet.

I'm 51 and don't heal as fast as I used to. But, I'm really lucky to by alive.

The bad part is that I just bought a racing Kart and haven't had a chance to drive it yet. It is just sitting in my shop..., mocking me.
