HEY EVERYONE I GO BY Q AND AM NEW TO THE FORUM, ACTUALLY NEW TO ANY FORUM AT ALL SO JUST GETTING USED TO THIS. ANYWAYS, I HAVE RECENTLY FOUND A LOVE FOR BMW'S NOT TOO LONG AFTER MY GIRLFRIEND AND I BOUGHT OUR '05 X5 IN 2007. I LIVE WITH A COUSIN WHO OWNS A 240Z AND RECENTLY PURCHASED A 510 WHICH ARE CARS THAT IVE ALWAYS ENJOYED JUST NEVER SAW MYSELF OWNING ONE. SO MY GIRLFRIEND AND I GOT INTO THE 510 AND AFTER A FEW TRIPS SHE SAID SHE WANTED ONE AND SO I STARTED TO LOOK AT SOME 2002'S. AFTER DRIVING IN A FEW WE FELL IN LOVE SO HERE I AM NOW. WE SEARCHED AND SEARCHED FOR A ROUNDIE FOR SEVERAL MONTHS AND CAME ACROSS ONE THAT SEEMED TO HAVE VERY LITTLE RUST AND RUN AMAZING WELL FOR A 40 YEAR OLD CAR. WHEN I BROUGHT IT HOME THE ONLY ISSUES WERE THAT THERE WAS NO DRIVER QUARTER WINDOW AND THE GAS TANK WAS ONLY COVERED WITH A WATER BOTTLE LID AND DUCT TAPE. (NOT INCLUDING THE OBVIOUS WHERE AND TEAR OF BODY AND PAINT)

WHILE IT WAS IN MY GARAGE I DECIDED TO CHECK OUT THE FLOOR BOARDS WHICH SEEMED TO HAVE LIKE 3 LAYERS OF CARPET AND PADDING. THINKING TO MYSELF THERE'S GOT TO BE A WHOLE S*%@ LOAD OF RUST DOWN THERE I PULLED EVERYTHING UP AND IT WASN'T SO BAD. BUT WE DID A LITTLE SANDING AND POR 15 ON THE FLOOR BOARDS AND AFTER SITTING FOR ABOUT 2 AND A HALF WEEKS THE CAR WOULDN'T START AGAIN.

SO SINCE IT WAS RUNNING FINE BEFORE IT SAT THERE I THOUGHT TO MYSELF THAT IT COULDN'T BE ANYTHING SERIOUS SO I CHECK WHAT I FELT IS PRETTY BASIC WHEN IT COMES TO CARS STARTING (KEEP IN MIND IM PRETTY NEW TO MECHANIC WORK BESIDES OIL CHANGES AND TIRE ROTATIONS :-D ) WHICH WOULD BE FUEL AND SPARK. SO, I PICKED UP NEW SPARK PLUGS, CAP AND ROTOR AND CHECKED THE BATTERY. THE CAR TURNS BUT WONT START.

AGAIN I AM AND AMATEUR WHEN IT COMES TO CARS SO PLEASE BARE WITH ME. THE ONLY THING I CAN THINK OF IS THAT THERE IS NO FUEL PUMPING INTO THE ENGINE BECAUSE MY COUSIN HAD DETACHED THE FUEL LINE A LITTLE AFTER THE FUEL FILTER AND IT WAS "DRY" EVEN AFTER PUMPING THE GAS AND TRYING TO START IT SEVERAL TIMES. HE SAID IT MAY BE THE FUEL PUMP. IF YOU HAVE ANY SUGGESTION I WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE IT.

BTW, IS THE FUEL PUMP THE PIECE PROTRUDING FROM THE HEAD? SORRY IF THESE QUESTIONS ARE SILLY AND PROBABLY PRETTY OBVIOUS JUST LOOKING FOR A LITTLE HELP

Looks like a great project! You seem to be around the same spot I am with mine except I started on the exterior first. It is a ton of work but at least you have the peace of mind that is was done right when you are finally driving down the road.

Hey Q,

I started working on my floorboards this past weekend and it is really hard getting that tar paper up. What did you use before you started sanding. Is there a scraper or some other special device that helped you.
