Parental control.

The real parental control. Kids these days are a lot smarter on the hacking end of it. Even if your friends daughter does not know how to get around it she has friends that will tell her how or download a hack for her.

The best you can do is sit down and discuss what you don't want her to do. If she is sensible she may abide. Track her later on with keyboard software that will record every thing she types. Discuss it again if she doesn't get it.

It is the same thing as when you were living with your parents and by your parents rules in the house. When they decide they can't live by those rules they move out.

Tough love but effective.

i agree with the above post

there are a million websites that can be used to get around parental controls

i garantee the girls school blocks tons of webpages from the students (such as facebook, myspace, etc) to keep them focused in computer class, and i garantee she knows how to get around those blocks

nothing you do is going to be harder to break then the schools blocks

she needs to be convinced not to go to those sites, or the dad needs to chill and trust his daughters judgement. what sights r we talking about blocking here anyways?

ps. my persol favorite way to get around blocks is to use google translator to "translate" the webpage i want to go to from english to ... english hahaha

the only way to stop that is to block google, something my highschool was never willing to do

I am an IT technician for a school district and this is half of what we do. The money and time it goes into keeping kids safe online is mind boggling. All this does is keep us 1 step behind the kids at best. It isn't kids that are fooling the IT world, we maybe some are, it is people online who just want to cause a ruckus. People who know everything about the hardware/software we use and tell kids exactly how to get around it. The best thing your friend can do is install keylogging software to track every key stroke made on that computer or actually limit when that computer can get online. I wouldn't waste time, money or resources on anything else.

He can try the parental controls, but she'll get around that; therefore I would go with the spyware. That way he can at least know what she's up to (although he may not want to) and put a stop to it.

I know you should'nt spy on your kids is what some of you will say. Sometimes you have to to protect them from themselves.
