The FW190.....I built a model of one in the early 70's. A beautiful plane and very lethal in the hands of a top pilot.

the first picture is a FW 190 Dora, which used a non BMW 12 cyl. Jumo inverted (hence the longer nose), the rest, yes used the BMW radial 801, just minor observation.

"Compared with the FW 190A-8, the Dora-9: 1. With 40 hp (30 kW) to 50 hp (37 kW) more power, had a greater level speed, climb rate, and ceiling; 2. Had much better visibility to the rear, owing to its bubble canopy; 3. Was much quieter - the Jumo 213A vibrated much less than the BMW 801; 4. Handled better in steep climbs and turning, owing probably to its greater shaft horsepower at full throttle; 5. Had less torque effect on takeoff and landing; and 6. Had slightly greater endurance."

I prefer the planes of the winners anyway, especially this (and America's greatest all-time ace, Dick Bong, had all his kills in one -- Dick crashed and died testing a P-80 the same day the A-Bomb was dropped on Hiroshima just down the road from here in North Hollywood, by Oxnard and Satsuma) . . .
