I called this guy....good ole' country boy ready to seel his toys...real nice guy...I asked about the '02's and he said they run but are rusty...I bet if you show up with $1000 cash, you could walk away with a few cars...

My boss and I are going up there this weekend to look at a 911 Targa he has that is in mint shape (that is what he said).

I will report back if there is anything interesting for all of you.

I have been there, back in 2001 I flew down and met a gentleman at the airport who told me he had several cars, all in mint condition. He picked me up at the airport in a rusty 1980's ford escort and drove... and drove out in the middle of deliverance country. my girlfriend was not happy.

We had bought the siennabraun car you see in the photos. I was told it was recently repainted, in great shape and could be driven back to NY with no problems. It was in bad shape and I told him we would not be buying this car or driving it anywhere. It was a tense moment as we were alone out in the middle of nowhere and he knew we had cash in hand.

fortunately there were other people working in the junkyard that day, and we got the hell out of there.

Most cars are there for a reason; rust beyond repair, blown engines, missing engines, etc. I would not waste my time.

That sounds like a story from a horror movie. Good thing you made it out of there alive !!! How did you make it back to the airport ? Walked ? Hitched hike ? Called a cab ? Please finish story. *biting nails

The rest of the story... After putting around the boneyard in the siennabraun, which was supposed to be a 74tii, but really was a 75/6 carb car, I felt my body temp drop as I realized what I had gotten myself into.

I gained my composure, since my girl was with me, I did not want her to know the extent of how f'd we were. I calmly drove back to where the man we bought the car was standing and began to tell him all that was wrong with the car, starting with the fact that it was not a tii.

He started to get in my face, saying I was the one trying to pull something over on him. My girlfriend started to freak out, I kept cool, pointing out more things wrong with the car, like the utility knife cuts behind the tii clock, the center exit exhaust, etc. His anger turned from me, to the guy he bought the car from. He realized HE had been had and sheepishly gave me my deposit back and gave us a ride to the nearest car rental.

We drove immediately to the coast, wanting to forget the heartbreaking experience. I found an independent BMW shop outside of Charleston, SC and went inside and started talking to the owner, explaining what had just happened. He said that the best 02 in the southeast was for sale just a bit further down the coast and gave us a phone number.

I called and it was the sales department at Hilton Head BMW. A salesman had just bought a 73 Malaga from the original owners and was interested in selling. We drove down, gave him cash and drove it home to Buffalo, NY.

About a year later a gentleman stopped me at the local bank and offered me 'whatever I wanted' in cash. I did a quick calculation and added a fair amount and he went in to the bank and gave me cash on the spot.

That spring I bought 2761876 in Tucson AZ after watching her on auto trader for over a year. But thats another story; involving a breakdown in the desert, 110 degree heat, my 75 year old co-pilot and about 3000 miles to go.

Hi, there is something at the South Carolina lot I was curious about. Was wondering what your experience was when you went - because of the folks on here writing stories. I'm from Central Georgia.
