LOOK ON THE exhaust SIDE OF THE BLOCK,

between cylinders 3 and 2 - few inches down

from the head gasket surface and see a casting

time clock showing you the Month/Year the block

was made, and 20, or 18 telling you the displacement

of the block (as in 2.0 or 1.8 litre)

NEXT to the engine number will be stamped

production code numbers which also

tell you which model car, displacement, emission

controls - this is for motors produced from 1978

if you have the head off the motor - read off all the

numbers stamped into the top of the piston

The serial # stamped on the block (2573494) near the starter motor, would have matched the VIN of the car it was put in originally, and that would have been a mid '71 2002.
